Firstly, does the quality of the fabric really matter?
The answer is yes.
Usually what people mostly do is they only see the style, print and brand of the fabric. Examining the quality of the fabric is often neglected though that’s one of the most important criteria while selecting the fabric for a uniform.
Let’s have a look at the best-used fabrics in the world of uniform making.
Polyester :
Polyester is the most commonly used cloth material in school uniforms. It’s because polyester has many suitable features for this kind of wear.
Polyester is very long-lasting, which is useful for energetic children as the cloth cannot tear easily. It is easy to clean and can be dyed. That means, it can be personalized according to school needs.
It is commonly used in schools for uniforms like jumpers, but some polyester is used for pants, shirts and skirts as well.
Nylon :
This synthetic fibre-nylon was first produced in 1935 and has become one of the most widely used fabrics.
Its application ranges from clothing to machine parts. It is a very strong, light-weight fibre that is easy to clean and dye, which makes it a perfect cloth for school uniforms.
Wool :
It’s improbable to find wool being used on its own as a school uniform garment, but like polyester, it is often mixed with other fabrics to make great school jumpers or jackets.
Cotton :
Cotton is the cornerstone or basis of the fabric market. It is not only cheap to produce and manufacture but also durable, easy to dye, and very comfortable.
Woven cotton breathes well, which keeps kids cool when they are running around all day, and adults too feel comfortable and fresh.
A small proportion of polyester is sometimes mixed with cotton sheets to save the material from shrinking and creasing.
Dacron :
This is a synthetic fibre which originated from a chemical company during the 1940s.
Made with ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, Dacron is similar to polyester. It is used as a reinforcing agent in pants and skirts to give them extra wear.
